“Kaya Mo ‘Yan!” were the words shouted repeatedly to hype up the atmosphere and motivate the runners who joined the annual MILO Marathon Manila elimination race which started and ended at the Quirino Grandstand in Luneta last July 4, 2010.
Being the biggest running event in the country, the National MILO Marathon has become consistent in its advocacy to build champions. This year’s specific goal is to provide running shoes to underprivileged children from selected public schools in the country. A simple advocacy as it may seem, but “great things start from small beginnings” right? With these shoes, these children will be able to run, play, go to school, or perform other activities without hurting their feet.
Runners of all ages… even pets…had a grand time in this year’s marathon. Running for a cause gives marathoners a sense of fulfillment, knowing that even if they don’t bring home the medal, they were able to participate in a worthwhile advocacy efforts to extend help for a brighter future.
Aside from the marathon, other fun and dynamic activities were set up such as the mini soccer clinic and mini race track for kids. A photo wall was mounted where people can have their souvenir photos taken absolutely free.
A cheer dance competition (grade school and high school divisions) was held in between the announcements of the winners/medalists. Celebrities Toni Gonzaga, Karylle, and Gerald Anderson attracted a large crowd when they went up the stage.
Below is the MILO marathon schedule:
See you on next year’s run! 🙂
