First Time in Hong Kong

It was our first time to go to HK and Carla’s first time to ride a plane. From Manila, we boarded Cebu Pacific’s Airbus A330 at Terminal 3. Upon arrival in Hong Kong, we bought Octopus card (HK$ 150, with HK$50 as deposit). This is what we used to pay for our MTR rides and bus rides for the entire trip. The A21 bus took us to Nathan Road where our guesthouse is located. After check-in, we strolled around the area near the guesthouse and had dinner.

Going to Hong Kong and traveling within the metro is a breeze. Thanks to their efficient transportation system.

Some tips:

  1. Most tourists stay in guest houses along Nathan Road. You can find a comfortable place without breaking your wallet. Make sure to book at least 2-3 months before your trip. We stayed at Pearl Premium Guesthouse in Mirador Mansion. The location is good as many shops, restaurants, and tourist spots are within the area. It is not as busy as Chungking Mansion…an interesting place for you to find out.
  2. The best rates for money exchange is at the ground floor of Chungking Mansion. Be vigilant and transact only with legit money changers (Those with stalls and not with people outside the building).
  3. Download the MTR app. You can track and check which station is closest to your destination.
  4. Enjoy and explore the city! Hong Kong has a lot to offer. You’d be surprised to find small shops or restaurants inside those tall buildings. There’s an underground McDonald’s in TST.

Where we stayed:

Pearl Premium Guesthouse (booked using hotels.com)

Address: l0/F, Block F, Mirador Mansion, 58 Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong, Hong Kong

***The room is clean. They change towels everyday. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Room is small like most guesthouses but everything that you need is available…plus you’d only stay there to sleep and take a shower. It has a ceiling fan and a good working AC. I enjoyed my stay here and I’m happy to recommend it to you guys. ***

Cheese Overload! Nachos ala Bomba!

Here’s a treat…Gooey grilled cheese with salsa and refried beans on your nachos! That is some awesome cheesy goodness! My lactose intolerant self couldn’t help but get a taste of this bomba. I also had roasted chicken with burrito rice and triple mac and cheese. Chicken is juicy and delicious as well as the rice. The triple mac and cheese needs a little ooomph as it is bland. Oh, the mango iced tea is good too! Visit La Carnita and have a taste of this ooohlala bomba.

Ca Phe Saigon – Marikina City

I found this hidden gem right in the middle of a neighborhood in Marikina. The food is so good! I enjoyed my meal so much..I ran out of words.

I enjoyed and devoured three pieces of spring rolls filled with rice vermicelli, mint leaves, pork strips, and shrimps and a bowl of  Pho’ (beef noodles soup).  Both are simple, fresh, and filling…they totally hit the spot! To amp the flavor, I added hoisin sauce and chili sauce. I will definitely come back for the Pho and will try the Banh Mi and Ca phe next time.

Cebu Adventure (Day 2) Zubuchon and more

We pigged out the whole day…I’m not complaining. That irresistible lechon from Zubuchon paired with the delicious concoction of soy sauce, calamansi, tomato, onion, and kamias dip is the bomb!

We had dinner at Bigby’s after the event and capped the night with coffee and black forest icebox cake. What a way to end the trip! Til next time, Cebu!
