Kanto Freestyle Breakfast- Mandaluyong

We were all smiles when my friend Malou and I found out about this hidden ‘carinderia’ type restaurant in Mandaluyong that serves budget friendly, gourmet style meals. They are open 24/7 and that means you get to order breakfast meals at anytime of the day. What’s interesting is, you can choose whatever is in the menu, as the name itself says Freestyle.

We had French Toast with Bacon and Egg (Php 90). As it is a usual breakfast fare, there’s nothing special about the taste but it is the way how the food is presented that makes a difference. I like the crispiness of the bacon and the creamy and fluffy scrambled egg. The serving of the maple syrup is generous.

The Honey Garlic Chicken (Php 90) came with Tomato Pesto and Garlic Rice. The chicken is crunchy and tasted okay.I just find it too sweet. Good thing there’s the tomato with drizzle of pesto sauce to balance the taste.

To cap our meal, we had Deep Fried Oreos (Php40). Crunchy coating + Oreos = the bomb!

I heard they’re opening 2 branches soon, one in Marikina and the other in Kapitolyo, Pasig and it’s just their 2nd year in the business. Good job, guys! Will go back to try the pancakes next time. Two claps for Kanto Freestyle Breakfast.

Manang’s Chicken – ang bagong fried chicken ng Pinoy

It was 2011 when I had my first taste of the famous double deep fried crispy chicken from Manang’s Chicken. I remember that was at Mercato Centrale. What I like most about their chicken is the crunchiness of the skin and the flavor of the soy garlic sauce that just hits the spot.

Now, I’m happy that Manang’s Chicken is introducing new items on their menu. My friend Sha and I got to try their Manang’s Chips & Dips, Garlic Pork Rice Meal and Red Velvet sundae.

Manang’s Chips & Dips are all natural potato chips that are fried to golden perfection. You can choose from creamy cheese, garlic may or spicy ketchup or have all three as your dips.

Their new entree, Garlic Pork Rice Meal, gives a different twist to the boring “Pork Chop” as their version has special garlic topping. The vinegar dipping sauce is a perfect match for this treat.

Enjoy it with a choice of sides. We had buttered corn and macaroni salad.

Of course we had Manang’s Chicken double deep fried chicken. Ang sarap papakin!

We ended our meal with these… 2 cups of Red Velvet sundae. The red velvet cake at the bottom was served warm. I like how the warm cake and the ice cream mixed in my mouth. Sweeeeeeet ending.

What I like about Manang’s Chicken is that they serve food that matches the Filipino palate, the affordable meals, the size of their servings that are just right to what I pay for.

Clap, clap for Manang’s Chicken. I’ll drop by for some Red Velvet sundae one of these days. Absolutely perfect to beat the heat this summer.

Dampa sa River Banks- Marikina

I’ve heard about this Dampa sa Marikina and would personally want to try it out, so I brought my family there for dinner the other night. I was thinking Dampa like the ones in Macapagal and Libis, unfortunately, the size of the Dampa in Marikina isn’t quite so near.

There are more or less 12 stalls in the area, each with color coded tables guests can occupy. It is overlooking the Marikina River (ampitheater side); perfect place for dining al fresco.

We looked around for what type of food they offer and found out it’s mostly grilled/inihaw. We settled and decided to have our food ordered at Fortune Grill.

Price is cheap and they cook your food upon order. They give freebies “Mangga with bagoong” and soup “Sinigang sa Miso”.

This is what we ordered for:

2 pusit (Large 130 each) – 260

1 chicken (3pcs in a skewer) – 70

1 tilapia-  70

1 bangus- 90

2 liempo (70 each) – 140

1 sisig – 70

5 cups of rice- 50

1.5L Coke- 60

Total: 810

I knew we ordered to much. There were six of us and we were completely full. We miss grilled food and this satisfied our craving.

If you are around the area, go ahead and try Dampa in Marikina. You get real value for your money.
