Manang’s Chicken – ang bagong fried chicken ng Pinoy

It was 2011 when I had my first taste of the famous double deep fried crispy chicken from Manang’s Chicken. I remember that was at Mercato Centrale. What I like most about their chicken is the crunchiness of the skin and the flavor of the soy garlic sauce that just hits the spot.

Now, I’m happy that Manang’s Chicken is introducing new items on their menu. My friend Sha and I got to try their Manang’s Chips & Dips, Garlic Pork Rice Meal and Red Velvet sundae.

Manang’s Chips & Dips are all natural potato chips that are fried to golden perfection. You can choose from creamy cheese, garlic may or spicy ketchup or have all three as your dips.

Their new entree, Garlic Pork Rice Meal, gives a different twist to the boring “Pork Chop” as their version has special garlic topping. The vinegar dipping sauce is a perfect match for this treat.

Enjoy it with a choice of sides. We had buttered corn and macaroni salad.

Of course we had Manang’s Chicken double deep fried chicken. Ang sarap papakin!

We ended our meal with these… 2 cups of Red Velvet sundae. The red velvet cake at the bottom was served warm. I like how the warm cake and the ice cream mixed in my mouth. Sweeeeeeet ending.

What I like about Manang’s Chicken is that they serve food that matches the Filipino palate, the affordable meals, the size of their servings that are just right to what I pay for.

Clap, clap for Manang’s Chicken. I’ll drop by for some Red Velvet sundae one of these days. Absolutely perfect to beat the heat this summer.

Lolo Nonoy’s Food Station- Coron, Palawan

Looking for a place to eat in Coron shouldn’t be hard. There are a lot of restaurants to choose from: budget friendly, fine dining, American, Japanese, Italian, fast food, or carinderia. For travelers with a limited budget, this place should be on your list.

Lolo Nonoy’s Food Station tops my list of the most affordable resto in town. They serve good food that doesn’t hurt your pocket. It’s something I look for everytime I travel.

A stoned pathway leads you to a row of  nipa huts adorned with summer decors. Plants, trees, and a water fountain surround the place which is perfect for that alfresco dining.

You can have your food ordered thru a food display, the same way you order in a cafeteria where readily available viands can be selected. Another way is thru the menu where food is prepared only upon order.

On the table:

We had lomi soup on a hot day…can you believe that? Weird but true, hot food on a hot day wasn’t that bad. The thick soup filled with noodles and chunks of chicken meat, carrots, and pechay. The aroma and pungent taste of garlic made this dish extra delicious.

I love meat and I couldn’t resist this dish. Pork Binagoongan. It is pork belly sauteed in shrimp paste and coconut milk with veggies, usually eggplant. I immediately told the lady in the counter to give me a serving of this dish upon seeing it in the display. The meat could be swimming in oil and not visually inviting but tasted great.  Get ready to order some extra rice as this dish is salty (deliciously salty).

Chicken Cordon Bleu. Yes, it’s a french dish and it’s in the menu. Beat that.  🙂  This chicken wrapped around ham and cheese and coated with breading was served warm which gives a crunchy coating and a creamy filling. It is served on a sizzling plate with fried egg and a cup of rice.

Feel the breeze and gaze at the stars while enjoying your dinner.

When in Coron, don’t miss to drop by and dine in Lolo Nonoy’s Food Station. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Kawayanan Grill Station- Coron,Palawan

I like Coron so much that  I went to this island twice last year. Yeah, this post is long over due and I apologize for doing the write-up…just now. Anyhoo, I’m glad to have visited Coron again…life there is so laid-back. I knew I will never get tired of Coron; though it’s just a small island, there are so many things to explore and enjoy. Click on the link to view a video clip of our trip…  http://spammable.multiply.com/video/item/6

With my quest to find interesting places to dine in, I went to Kawayanan Grill for dinner. I’ve read good reviews about this resto and I wanted to try it myself.

The price seems so steep for meals with veggie/pork/beef since these are being imported from nearby provinces. On the other hand, seafood is averagely priced. We had clubhouse sandwich and seafood pancit for midnight snack. Together with that we had mango juice and calamansi juice for drinks.

The seafood pancit was goooood. There’s lot of squid and shrimp in it, add to that some squid balls and clams. I’m not really into seafood but this pancit made me say “Yummmmeh!”. There’s not much vegetables, just a few strips of carrots, cabbage and string beans.

The clubhouse sandwich was quite dry. Too expensive for a sandwich with just ham, egg, and tomato between slices. It came with corn chips which is ok. The slightly salty corn chips matched with the tangy mango juice was a perfect combination.

The service was a bit slow here. It took forever for our  food to be served. The wait staff weren’t paying attention to customers; some were too busy watching that night’s band perform.

The saving grace really for this night was the pancit. It’s the only one that stuck in my mind. Sitting in the nipa hut, feeling the fresh breeze, and listening to native coron songs make this restaurant a perfect place to unwind, well… almost.

If I have friends who’ll be coming over to Coron, I’ll recommend Kawayanan Grill for their seafood pancit.

Beside the restaurant is a souvenir shop that sells mostly shirts and key chains. They have pretty decent shirt designs but I could buy 2 shirts from another store with 1 shirt in Kawayanan Souvenir shop. Talk about steepness… kaching!
