Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2010 – SMX Convention Center

900 models, 112 designers, 25 fashion shows, 4 clothing brands in 2 venues for 1 week of fashion overload. That’s the way to sum up the Philippine Fashion Week (PFW) Holiday 2010… wherein top local designers showcased their masterpiece.  Congratulations to Runway Productions, the organizer of this event, sponsors, and to all who made this longest running fashion extravaganza in the country a success.

I was elated by the invitation of a friend to shoot; I knew my eyes would be busy sighting beautiful faces. Woot! Woot!  Legions of fashionistas flocked SMX Convention Center last May 26- June 1 to witness the drool worthy collections of renowned Filipino designers.

We watched the 5:30 fashion show… Collections of Lyle Ibanez and Raoul Ramirez for Esac, Ronaldo Arnaldo, and Gerry Katigbak. It was an interesting introduction made by Esac, having a man almost naked walk in the center. The collection however was plain and mostly monochromatic. I found Ronaldo Arnaldo’s idea of his models wear aviator shades unique. It made the audience focus on the clothes instead of the model’s face. It was an awesome experience to view models fully clad with Gerry Katigbak’s collection. The intricate designs and the paper doll like dresses of the ladies were remarkable.

By 7pm, we headed to the next function room to see the much awaited M Barretto’s collection. Here, the models (all males) stood in line like mannequins in department stores. Spectators had to move around, from one model to another, instead of just sitting down and watching the models hit the runway. It was a riot! It was really hard to shoot while trying to squeeze in the crowd. It ended with a surprise… John Avila, Zanjoe Marudo, and Piolo Pascual, together with M Barretto himself, walk through the center stage. Yeah, I had to back off before I get hurt by the stampede.

I enjoyed the night; it was also nice to see old friends, models and photographers alike. See you guys on the next PFW event.   🙂
